What type of targets are HE mortar rounds NOT specifically designed for?

High Explosive (HE) mortar rounds are primarily designed for causing damage through explosive force, fragmentation, and blast effects. While HE rounds can be effective against a wide variety of targets, they are not specifically optimized for use against armored vehicles.

Armored vehicles are typically protected by heavy armor designed to withstand high-caliber impacts and explosive forces. As a result, while HE rounds may cause some damage to lighter-skinned vehicles, their effectiveness diminishes significantly against well-armored targets, which are more reliably engaged with specialized munitions, such as armor-piercing projectiles or anti-tank guided missiles.

In contrast, light material targets, personnel, and enemy structures are all susceptible to the effects of HE rounds. Light materials can be easily destroyed or incapacitated, personnel are affected by the blast radius and shrapnel generated, and enemy structures can sustain significant damage from the explosive impact. This highlights why armored vehicles stand out as targets not specifically suited for the use of HE mortar rounds.
